Using Job Descriptions to Attract the Right Talent
Show Notes

Your job description is the front line marketing tool that is going to attract candidates into the role you are hiring for but if you’re following traditional job description frameworks, you may be attracting talent that looks good on paper but doesn’t end up working out in the long run. This week’s episode 83 of Female Founders Breaking Boundaries is about using job descriptions to attract the right talent!

Have you ever felt like you were WAY too busy, stressed out, burnt out, and overwhelmed, so you were advised to delegate some tasks to take things off your plate and free up some time? Except, maybe it didn't work. If getting out of the day-to-day in your business was as simple as hiring more people, then why are you still feeling overwhelmed and burned out? You are not alone! Sometimes, simply delegating tasks doesn’t work and instead shifts your workload from “doing” to “managing.”

I invite you to use the exercise that our own C-Suite clients use to take the first step in turning your team into a well-oiled, self-managed machine- and get you out of the delegation catch-22. Download the exercise here to get started!

In this episode of Female Founders Breaking Boundaries, I’m sharing why having a well ironed out job description is so important when it comes to both attracting and retaining employees and actionable steps you can take right now to shift your job descriptions so that your applicants can picture themselves in the role or self-select out of the process. Some of the things I cover in this episode are:

  • Celebrating  Emily McCarthy, co-founder of GORUCK for bringing the principles of special forces together with functional fitness and building a community around the idea of pushing your mind and body beyond what you think is possible.
  • Where a traditional job description may be lacking when it comes to focusing on the things that actually matter.
  • What to include in your job descriptions so you can start attracting the right talent.
  • The importance of including traits vs. skills on a job description.
  • Using your job description to come up with the interview questions that are going to allow the applicant to demonstrate that they are a good fit for the role.
  • My thoughts on how the difference between being nice and being kind intertwines with setting boundaries and the #MeToo movement.

I encourage you to take time to go back and look at the job descriptions you are putting out there and make the necessary changes that will help you start attracting high-quality candidates.
